Collimation Technology
Collimation refers to the process of aligning light rays to travel in parallel, reducing the natural divergence of LED light. In machine vision, this technique is especially useful when high-contrast, sharp-edged silhouettes are required—such as in precision measurement or edge detection.
Effilux achieves collimation using specially designed collimation films integrated into or added onto backlights. These films narrow the emission angle of the light, typically to 60° in one or two directions, depending on the configuration.
Why collimation matters for lighting systems
Lighting is the foundation of accurate machine vision, and collimated lighting plays a critical role in applications where precision is key. Choosing the right collimated light ensures:
- Sharp silhouettes & improved accuracy: Parallel rays eliminate edge blur, especially on rounded or transparent parts improving overall accuracy
- Reduced ambient interference: Focused beams minimize the impact of stray light or reflections
- Custom integration: Built-in or add-on collimation options allow flexibility depending on your setup
Our Collimation Lighting Solutions
Collimated lighting is ideal for applications that demand precision and clarity:
- Dimensional inspection:Accurate measurement of parts, especially with rounded or complex shapes
- Edge detection: High-contrast silhouette generation for vision systems
- Level detection through transparent materials: Detect fill levels or object presence behind glass or plastic
- Assembly verification: Ensure correct positioning of components in automated lines
